Of wordplays, and their ramifications.......

At the recent committee meeting, the discussion turned, as it does, to knitting and crocheting, to which I mentioned antimaccassars. Someone mentioned that they were anti antimaccassars, but when you think about it, that means they're pro maccassars. Or are they just maccassars?

Ideas, clarifications, etc. welcome.

Another item discussed at the meeting was what shows we were doing in 2010. There is probably going to be a Jane Austen play at the start of the year, then someone suggested Beowulf as a complete contrast. There was another suggestion for a second Jane Austen play as a doubleheader, but there was a feeling that variety was better. Someone else suggested Jane Austens Beowulf as another idea, which would make for interesting reading, something along the lines of:

Beowulf journeyed to the nearby village and split the chief of the village in twain for his refusal to bow to Beowulf. He then gathered all the women of the village and took them to his castle. Upon his return, he spoke to his lieutenant and told him to divide the spoils amongst his men. The day was long, and Beowulf became weary. He sat down and had an entire ox for dinner, then retired to his chamber for the evening.

Slightly bad, I know, but if you can do better, leave a reply, pilgrim!
